The most beautiful engagement ring is not the biggest, nor the most expensive. It is the one that looks like the person who will wear it. After nearly fifty years designing and setting rings on boulevard Saint-Laurent, it is the one rule we hold to be true.
Here is how to approach the choice calmly and with confidence, without jargon and without pressure.
Understanding the 4 Cs
Four criteria describe a diamond. Knowing them helps you compare like with like.
- Cut. This is what gives a diamond its brilliance. A well-executed cut makes a stone sparkle more than added weight ever could. For us, it is the most important criterion.
- Color. Graded from D (colorless) toward warmer tones. A slightly warm stone can be superb and more accessible, especially set in yellow or rose gold.
- Clarity. The presence of tiny natural inclusions. Most are invisible to the naked eye. There is no need to pay for a perfection no one will see.
- Carat. The weight. A well-cut, well-set half-carat often has more presence than a heavier but duller stone.
A beautiful stone is chosen with the eyes before the numbers. Come see a few side by side, and the difference becomes obvious.
Choosing the metal
The metal sets the tone of the ring and should suit the person who wears it every day.
- 18k white gold. Bright and contemporary, it shows off the diamond without drawing the eye away.
- 18k yellow gold. Warm and timeless, and back in force. Beautiful with a slightly warm stone.
- 18k rose gold. Soft and romantic, flattering on most skin tones.
- Platinum. The densest and most durable, ideal for a ring worn for a lifetime.
The setting and the style
The setting holds the stone and shapes the character of the ring.
- Solitaire. A single stone, clean lines. The great classic that never dates.
- Halo. A crown of small diamonds around the center stone, for more sparkle and presence.
- Three stones. A center stone framed by two others, said to evoke the past, present, and future.
- Pavé. Small diamonds along the band, for a quiet, continuous brilliance.
Think about lifestyle too. An active person will appreciate a more protected setting and a reasonable height.
Setting a fair budget
There is no required amount. A good budget is one that leaves you comfortable. Our role is to make the most of the figure you have in mind, working the cut, color, and setting to maximize beauty rather than weight on paper.
We always present the options transparently, with no push toward the top. The ring should be a joy, not a source of stress.
The custom route
If you cannot find exactly the ring you imagined, we create it. Custom design begins with a conversation, followed by a sketch, then a wax or 3D-printed model before the piece is made. You see the ring take shape at every stage, crafted in our workshop, here in Montréal.
It is also the ideal route to reuse a family diamond or reinvent an heirloom into something worn today.
Frequently asked questions
What budget should I plan for an engagement ring?
There is no rule. Set a comfortable amount and let us make the most beautiful result possible from it. We work across a wide range of budgets.
How long does a custom ring take?
Generally three to four weeks between approval of the design and the finished ring, depending on complexity.
Can I use a family diamond or heirloom?
Yes, gladly. We assess the stone, check the setting, and design a new ring around your stone.
Do I need an appointment?
It is not required, but a private viewing lets us take the time it takes. Walk in Tuesday through Saturday.
Whether you arrive with a precise idea or a blank page, our team guides you with patience. Discover our selection of rings or come talk it through at the boutique.
